About Hayley Carson

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Grinnell College in Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies, concentrating in Digital Studies. I have found a passion in making digital experiences to more accessibly and comprehensively explain transnational socio-political phenomena. I aspire to attend graduate school to further develop my skills and contribute to the academic study surrounding how race, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic class shape representation in children's books. My international educational experiences in Costa Rica, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic has inspired my desire to work transnationally, from a feminist and environmentally-conscious lens. Through my interactions with various nonprofits, NGOs, and Rainforest Alliance certified businesses in these countries, I have gained an understanding of these organizations role in individuals’ lives and their greater impacts on the community. I am looking for a future career in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion where I can help facilitate and create more inclusive spaces. My current ideas and interests lie in museum exhibition curation, children’s book publishing, policy research, and nonprofit operations. I treasure my experiences working on curriculum development for Drag Story Hour and Grinnell College, as I truly am proud of the impact I’m making in more inclusive and representative lesson planning. I hold various technical certifications in Microsoft Technology and Microsoft Office products. I acquired these hard skills at my high school through their Institute of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics magnet program.
