About Hayley Smith

My strong analytical and critical thinking skills, coupled with my interpersonal and mentoring skills, allow me to see where things may not be efficient and motivate others to think outside the box and embrace continuous improvement. Healthcare has been all I have known since I was sixteen and obtained my Nursing Assistant Certification. Over the last seven+ years, I have worked in several different positions at a level II trauma hospital with the busiest emergency department in Washington state. I have a strong understanding of the inner workings of hospital structure, patient care, workforce management, CBAs, agency/traveler contracts, staffing, hospice, billing, and more. On the side, I have also worked with local small businesses to create easy to use cost analysis tools (spreadsheets) to help them succeed. I am a problem solver and an excellent communicator. I can create job aids and tools that individuals can easily use, follow, and understand. I have been a part of various projects including a system wide new workforce management program implementation project and a position control tool improvement project. One of my greatest achievements is stepping into a role where there were absolutely no standard work or job aids. It felt like my responsibility to set my colleagues and future colleagues up for success. After two years of work, all work is now standardized, expectations are written and clear, manual workarounds have been removed, and insufficient double work has been eliminated. Some of these job aids and standard work are also followed and utilized by departments and managers house wide. As a result, the turnover rate for the department dropped significantly and was the lowest it had been since early 2022.
