About Hazel Ball

Hello everyone! My name is Hazel, and I'm a passionate and skilled UX/UI designer and front-end developer with a small-business mindset. Currently, I'm pursuing my degree in computer science at the University of Arizona, and minoring minor Gender & Women's Studies. Since I was a freshman in high school, I've immersed myself in the world of web design and development. I started with my own personal portfolio, and quickly branched out to creating a variety of websites for local community members, high school competitions, and non-profit organizations. I also worked on personal projects like Fresh, my own lightweight CSS framework, to add to my abilities and branch out within the field. During my high school years, I co-founded a software development company with a group of talented peers. There, I was the sole full stack developer for our internal and external websites, and a head UX/UI designer for our mobile apps. Together, we designed and developed multiple app prototypes for high school competitions and our own ventures, included client/community work. Although I left the company while pursuing my degree, I'm proud to say that the company has grown into a profitable enterprise, successfully releasing apps for iOS and Android platforms. In April 2020, I embarked on a new adventure by launching a card game on Kickstarter. Thanks to the support of backers, I raised over $2,500 in initial funding and sold more than 200 copies of the game. This success inspired me to establish a profitable Shopify store, where I continued to sell the game for two years. Looking ahead, I'm excited to create more games with broader appeal and set ambitious marketing goals. In professional settings, I'm drawn to the vibrant culture of small businesses and startups, and thrive in fast-paced, challenging environments. I excel in spaces with unrestrained creativity and at workplaces delivering unique products that go beyond mere sales figures. Whether it's collaborating with a team or taking the lead, I'm eager to contribute to an organization or project that shares my passion for purpose-driven projects.
