About Hazel Farrell
Dr Hazel Farrell is the SETU Academic Lead for Generative AI, and lead for the N-TUTORR National Gen AI Network project GenAI:N3, which aims to draw on expertise across the higher education sector to create a network and develop resources to support staff and students. She has presented her research on integrating AI into the classroom in a multitude of national and international forums focusing on topics such as Gen AI and student engagement, music education, assessment re-design, and UDL. Coming from a background in analytical musicology, her research expanded into the area of TEL and student engagement initiatives. She received the WIT Teaching Excellence award in 2019 for her work in this area. She is a founder member of the SETU research group CASE (Creative Approaches to Student Engagement) involving practice-based initiatives such as the exploration of e-portfolios, infographics, sustainability, and Gen AI. She has led the multi-disciplinary Sustainability in the Arts Festival since 2023 focusing on embedding the SDGs in the curriculum and creating a culture of sustainability in the university and wider community. The festival recently won the inaugural SATLE Impact Award in the "Education for Sustainability" category. The 2025 festival takes place from 7 - 11 April and focuses on the theme of 'Land, People, Culture'.
