About Hc Bledsoe

I am a graduate of NC State University in Science, Technology, and Society, with a focus on Environmental & Public Health, and minors in English and Biological Sciences. I have extensive tutoring and customer service experience, in fields with diverse ranges of age, race, gender, class, and orientation. I support and welcome diversity of all kinds, and am LGBTQ+ myself. I hope to participate in AmeriCorps Summer 2018 and later attend law school, though I am savoring my last semester of undergraduate classes. While attending classes full-time, I also work at a local coffee shop, and am capable of maintaining a work-life balance. Never am I more intrigued than when I am faced with questions, challenges, and complex problems; I love to find the individual threads of a tangled issue and trace them to the knotted heart. Locating and articulating the central sticking point is only the beginning of resolution, but the start is as vital as the finish. I am deeply interested in the overlap between poor environmental quality and discrimination, especially as quality of life and health are affected. For example, my senior capstone paper is about the maternal mortality gap between Black and white mothers in the U.S, and the many factors at play. I know that there is always room for improvement. I don’t enjoy making mistakes, but I am not afraid of them: as greater minds have said, every error is an opportunity to learn. I’m an excellent (one might say well-practiced) learner, and my curiosity, my desire to expand and contextualize information, and my ability to communicate what I know to others are among my best traits. I am and have always been interested in the natural world, and I believe that marrying environmentalism and intersectionalism can lay the foundations for a stable, egalitarian, and peaceful human experience. Investing time, energy, and force of will into realizing that future will not be easy, but the most worthwhile things rarely are.
