About Heasook Rhee
Heasook Rhee has been a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music since 1998. Her book “The Art of Instrumental Accompanying” was published by Carl Fischer in May 2012, and published in Chinese by the Central Conservatory Press in Beijing in 2015 and the Korean translation will be published in 2016. She has given master classes at Curtis Institute, IU Bloomington, Boston University in the US, in China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea, and at Feistritz Summer Course, Austria, Marktoberdorf, Germany, Courchevel in France, and the Castleman Quartet Program. Her students have won International Chamber Music Competitions: Vittorio Gui in Florence, Italy; Plovdiv in Bulgaria; VIVO, Yellow Spring, Balsam Duo Competition, Coleman Chamber Music Competition in the US. She has performed with many noted artists, including violinists Ivry Gitlis, Ilya Grubert, Peter Zazofsky, cellists Marcio Carneiro, Charles Curtis, Karine Georgian, Samuel Mayes, Nathaniel Rosen, Jian Wang, Tilmann Wick, tenor Nikolai Gedda, bass-baritone Simon Estes, soprano Youngok Shin, and flutist Julius Baker. She has performed at the Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall at the Carnegie, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C, Ann Arbor, and Houston to name a few. In Germany, she performed at major venues such as the Schauspielhaus (Konzerthaus) in Berlin, Residenz in Munich, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Beethovenhaus in Bonn. Tours included St. John's Smith Square in London, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Tonhalle in Zurich, Brussels, Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, Melba Hall in Melbourne, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Hong Kong and Korea. She has appeared as a guest artist at the Berliner Festwochen, Weilburg Schloss International Festival in Germany, Quincena Musical, San Sebastian in Spain, Cuernavaca in Mexico, GMMF in Korea.Dr. Rhee studied piano solo with Jacob Lateiner at the Juilliard, and accompanying with Eugene Bossart at the UM.
