About Heather Bishop

I am a writer and donor relations professional at Western University. I have developed my appreciative and stewardship writing skills, producing donor-centred reports, letters and materials for Western's most generous donors. I have experience developing strategies for engaging donors and cultivating their support through stewardship. I am also very involved in the mental health community, advocating locally and provincially for children and adults with mental illnesses. It has been my pleasure to assist parents of children with mental illnesses as they negotiate the mental health, school and justice systems. I serve on the Board of CMHA Middlesex and run a Parent Support Group for parents of children with mood disorders. I have also served on numerous committees, participated in workshops and made keynote presentations to educators, mental health agencies and politicians across Ontario about navigating and improving the mental health care system, particularly as it relates to children and their parents seeking services. Prior to coming to Western, I worked at CBC in Edmonton as a Communications and Public Relations Officer. While there, I worked primarily with CBC Radio, promoting Edmonton-based local, provincial and national programs, organizing promotional events and writing and producing promotional spots for radio and Television. I also enjoyed working collaboratively with arts organizations and other non-profits to provide exceptional sponsorship and promotion of their events through CBC Radio and Television. Early in my career, I worked as a Publicist for several theatre companies including The Phoenix Theatre (Edmonton), Red Barn Theatre (Jackson's Point, ON) and The Theatre School (London, ON). In addition, I was the General Manager of The Theatre School, a London-based school offering acting classes to children and adults during the school year and at camps throughout the summer.
