Background
About Heather Carson
I have had the pleasure of working in the Energy Industry for 15 years, and 12 of those with Shell. During this time I have been exposed to various businesses, acquiring skills in Trading Analytics, Bunker Operations, Cargo Operations (Fuel Oil and VGO), Vessel Operations (Clean Products, Dirty Products, and Crude), Natural Gas Pipeline Operations, Midstream Natural Gas Pipeline Projects, and Gasoline and Diesel Pricing and Demand Planning. I am skilled in collaboration, process improvement, adding commercial value, project management, peer leadership, and applying personal development studies to my work. My positive mindset, performance-driven attitude, and leadership capacity set me apart from my peers and contribute to my successes. My 2 greatest professional accomplishments to date include attaining my role in Vessel Operations and leading our department's People Development Focus Group. While interviewing for my first full-time position out of college, I met someone who did Vessel Operations and I quickly decided that this was a "dream" position for me. I was intrigued by the international aspect of the business, the level of responsibility, and the amount of value that could be added (or lost) depending on the decisions that were made. I decided to take an Analyst role with BP but kept Vessel Operations as a goal for myself in the future. I worked hard, and it wasn't until after I went to Shell, was promoted from Analyst to Bunker Scheduler to Fuel Oil Scheduler, that I was presented with the opportunity to be a Vessel Operator. It was one of the most memorable days of my life! I continued in the role for years and only left to pursue other roles within Shell when there wasn't a Vessel Operations Team Lead role available in the US. Approximately 1.5 years into my current role as Unbranded Products Coordinator, the lead for our internal People Development Focus Group became available. I expressed interest to my Line Manager and General Manager about leading this global, 12 member peer group, and they allowed me to become the first employee that was not on the Leadership Team to take this responsibility. We are on schedule to complete 14 initiatives during 2022, including a training series on Productivity, updating our internal and external training rosters, issuing a quarterly newsletter, hiring an external keynote speaker, hosting our VP for a get-to-know-you breakfast, and a competition around process automation and DIY upskilling. I have received praise from both my peers and our leadership team for our accomplishments this year.
