I started Mama HACs in 2020 in hopes of growing a business that would allow me to work from home and take care of my young children. I had been a property manager at a local property for about 5 years at that point and the lockdown helped me to realize that a lot of the work can be done remotely. I continued to work there for about another year before deciding to focus solely on my business. In further research, I realized that there were other, larger companies already providing remote assistance through virtual assistants, most of whom were located in the Philippines. While, for many, this was a cheaper route, many of these assistants did not have prior experience in property management. They hadn't handled all, if any, of the tasks in-person at any time. That is where Mama HACs is different. We have worked in the field and understand the ins and outs of the role. However, while we are not there in person, we know how to follow up and make sure that tasks are handled appropriately and in a timely manner. We also know which tasks tend to take up the most time and can cause the most headaches. Tasks like emails and phone calls from tenants and tracking down rental payments. Or following up with applicants who can't seem to get all their information or documentation in. And then there are tasks that many would like to get to but just can't seem to make the time, like implementing tenant retention. Even just sending birthday cards to the tenants may seem daunting. Forget trying to coordinate community events - there is no time for that. These are all areas in which we can assist. We are also open to finding more ways to help self-managing owners and property managers free up their time. Being remote, there are a few limitations. We can't physically show units or hand over keys, but we do have ways in which we can assist to make this happen. We are also limited on a few tasks due to the laws in most states. As we do not have a real estate license in any of the 50 states, we are not able to market available units or directly collect rent. However, most owners and property managers use software that does this for them, so it has not presented an issue.
