About Heather Fraser

I have experience working with several different collections of human and animal remains, pottery and various artifacts including coins, urns, and sickles. I have been taught proper curation of these remains and artifacts while participating in the Slavia project in Drawsko, Poland. With this project I was also taught proper cleaning, curating and storage of artifacts. Most recently having worked with the unethical collection at the Iziko Museums in South Africa, I have been completing biological profiles and identifying remains to be repatriated to the proper tribes of people. Having worked with several other academic collections has awarded me the understanding of curation and storage of artifacts and remains. Throughout my Masters degree I was trained in both zooarchaeology and osteoarchaeology which allows me to work with both animal and human remains. For my dissertation I was trained in the use and processing of 3D imaging (Artec 3D scanner) as well as completing a program at the University of Bologna in 3D imaging data processing both 3D scans and CT scans. I have also worked with the archaeology department at the Iziko Museums with there installation of there evolution exhibit at the South African Museum. My experience of creating many different educational programs for STEM based summer camps and community science outreach at the Discovery Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, gives me a unique understanding of the position as it has taught me how to teach and display to all different people and levels. Having developed outreach and educational programs in four different countries has provided me with the understanding and the ability to work with and train different types of people. Having work with so many different types of people and children in different summer camps and outreach activities has taught me how to problem solve quickly and come up with the best answer.
