About Heather Lyons

I am a passionate and loving teacher. I truly love what I do and my enthusiasm shines in the classroom. I am currently on my 3rd year of teaching 1st grade. My lessons are creative, hands on, and fun. We are using manipulatives to extend our knowledge in mathematics, going beyond the text in reading groups and reading on our instructional level to improve our reading. I differentiate my lessons to meet the needs of all of my learners such as my gifted & talented students, my ELL students,students with IEPs and my approaching students. One of my main goals as a teacher is to provide my students with clear feedback so the student can reflect and improve. Every day in my classroom is a new learning opportunity through a variety of activities. My students not only learn what is in our standards and curriculum but have the opportunity to develop personal relationships/friendships, social skills, problem solving skills and have real world problem solving opportunities. I enjoy incorporating "Growth Mindset" in the classroom so students are always growing their brain. With growth mindset, students are always looking to improve and do the best that they can. This helps build positive relationships with my students. I am organized, well planned, creative and enthusiastic. These qualities help me be the successful teacher that I am.
