About Heather Maxwell

Several abilities underlie Heather's success in diverse settings: serve, support, collaborate with and lead people; creatively problem solve to arrive at innovative solutions; and write clearly and persuasively. These skills have been honed through two tracts of experiences: healthcare and design. Through her work as a self-employed massage therapist for 9 years and as a hospice massage therapist, Heather developed business management skills and employed compassion, listening and creativity to create out of box options to address multiple aspects of day to day wellness for clients. As a designer, Heather thrives on creative problem solving to meet organization goals. For example, her innovative analysis presented in her masters thesis transformed Madison's approach to bicycle mapping and planning. Throughout her design work Heather has provided clear, persuasive written and visual communication, which led to a full consensus vote to adopt Madison's Pedestrian Transportation Plan and a published book (Tomorrow by Design) written for Professor Philip Lewis, Landscape Architecture, UW-Madison. Heather's current work as a manager at Wild Birds Unlimited combines her leadership, customer service and design skills. She fosters a collaborative team environment by building trust and inspiring co-workers to excel. Her enthusiasm about helping customers to design bird feeding stations is contagious.
