About Heather Odonnell

When I was in graduate school the first time, I thought about completing an extra twelve credits to be able to get dual certification in special and general education. I decided against it. I didn't want to be "trapped" into being a special education teacher. I think back on that moment, and laugh. Had I listened to 22 year old me, I wouldn't be where I am today - a passionate special education teacher building a business to help the kids who need it most. My clients need a little extra help learning to read, or perhaps require a few extra learning supports to be able to access the general education curriculum. Some of my clients have autism or ADHD and many have dyslexia. These are my kids. This is what I do. Luckily 25 year old me got it together and did figure it out. I returned to school for a degree in special education that has shaped who I am as a teacher to this day. And while I worked through school I encountered the Wilson Fundations reading program and learned about the science of reading. Now, as a certified dyslexia practitioner and a special education teacher, I help kids learn to read. 22 year old me might not recognize where I've ended up, but I'm pretty passionate about it.
