About Heather Patterson

Heather Patterson is a passionate ecologist and science communicator. Heather grew up in northern Ontario with a love of the outdoors, and a keen interest in the interconnectedness of people, land, water and wildlife. Holding degrees in Restoration Biology, Geographic Techniques, Environmental Science, and Science Communication, her work has focused on bringing together multiple ways of knowing to address resource and wildlife management in new and innovative ways. She is passionate about community-based advocacy and monitoring in all aspects of ecosystem health, accessible and engaging communication, and the recognition of multiple ways of knowing in environmental research and stewardship. Accessible and engaging communication is at the crux of Heather's work. Heather has published writing in both peer reviewed literature, and major publishers such as Canadian Geographic; as well as extensive experience multi-media content including content for web and social media applciations, graphic design, photography, nature interpretation, web development, and delivering and developing curriculum-based programing in non-formal education settings. Heather is open to freelance work in science communication, graphic design, writing, photography and landscape design.
