About Heather Radl

I created Rowan Tree Travel to help people to have an authentic travel experience in Scotland, but it has grown from a Scottish Specialist Independent Travel niche business to a Craft and Cultural Small Group Tour Business specializing in the niche market of Knitting and Fiber Tours! I love designing and leading Knitting and Fiber tours because they focus our experience through the lens of local traditions but also provide the modern twist and innovations that current designers are always adding. The new trend towards boutique yarns highlighting the characteristics of heritage sheep breeds is a great example of how the two factors entwine. For all tours, I strive to find accommodations, local tour companies and activities which support the local economy and environment, and facilitate getting to know the locals - I will find you a local ceilidh or traditional music session rather than sending you to a Scottish Night put on for tourists. Group sizes of 12-18 provide a fun, intimate, and enriching experience that you just won't find on big bus tours. Although my heart lies in Scotland, I am developing expertise in the rest of Great Britain, as well as Ireland, Iceland and Greece, all of which I have personal experience in, to better serve my clients and their travel needs. My degree in Anthropology and minors in Archaeology and Religious Studies highlight my passion for history, tradition and cultural exchange which I strive to incorporate into all of my tours.
