About Heather Root

Heather has been privileged to work as a scientist, clinical researcher and research administrator at multiple academic centers. When working in the lab, she enjoys optimizing and developing new techniques, and exploring genetic interactions. Heather has a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto within the Molecular Genetics program, and completed the Molecular Medicine Program at the Hospital for Sick Children. She has worked as a Clinical Research Associate in the field of Translational Medicine and has an interest in emerging treatments for human disease. Heather enjoys writing and has published work in peer reviewed journals. She is a strong communicator and interacts easily with scientists, clinical staff, administrators, and patients. She enjoys research operations, project management, and the challenges of managing multiple competing priorities. Heather has an analytical nature and a strong attention to detail. She enjoys working as part of a team and has successfully mentored students and fellows within the lab, and directly supervised office staff. Her management style is routed in the strategy of setting clear expectations and empowering staff with the autonomy and support needed to achieve their objectives.
