About Heather Vincent

Heather Vincent is a critical care nurse who partners with an interdisciplinary medical team of nurses, physicians, pharmacists, therapists, and social workers in leading the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Denver Health. After four years in bedside practice as a cardiac intensive care nurse, Heather transitioned into a leadership role as a clinical nurse educator and then into the role of nurse manager. In her current position, managing a busy 24 bed urban ICU, Heather’s focus is on educating and empowering her staff so that as a team they can provide exceptional patient care to their vulnerable populations. Her passion as a leader is to ensure patients receive the highest quality clinical care and feel respected and listened to during their hospital stay. Heather is a strong proponent of shared governance and strives to have an engaged and innovative workforce. She believes in empowering her staff to ask questions, seek new information, and utilize the latest evidence based practice to further their efforts to care for patients. Heather has participated in and led multiple successful Beacon and Magnet Award journeys. In her most recent role she has developed and implemented a brand new Area Based Council with a focus on changing the unit culture by implementing initiatives to align the unit with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), Heathy Work Environment standards. Heather holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing as well as a Masters of Business Administration and a Masters of Nursing Education, all from Aurora University. She has recently completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice with a focus on the impact of mindfulness based stress reduction techniques on burnout in ICU staff.
