Background
About Hector Sanchez
As a kid, I was obsessed with shows like the Discovery Channel, Nat Geo, and, of course, Anthony Bourdain’s travel adventures. I wasn’t content with just watching these incredible wonders of the world on TV. I had to see them for myself. Reading has also played a huge role in my life. I’m an introvert and have a hard time making friends and asking for help, so I turn to books and podcasts by people like Tim Ferris, Gary Vee, Joe Rogan, and Ryan Holliday to learn about whatever interests me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated with travel shows like the Discovery Channel, Nat Geo, and Anthony Bourdain. I wanted to experience the incredible wonders of the world for myself, not just watch them on TV. Reading has also played a major role in my life. As an introvert, I often have a hard time making friends and asking for help, so I’ve turned to books and podcasts by people like Tim Ferris, Gary Vee, Joe Rogan, and Ryan Holliday to learn about various subjects that interest me. Over the past 4 years, I’ve done more and been to more places than I ever thought possible. I’ve visited the Golden Palace in India, gotten my scuba diving certification in Ko Tao, Thailand, explored Angkor Wat in Cambodia, hiked to the base camp of Mount Everest, and so much more. In the past 4 years, I’ve traveled to India, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Bali, Spain, American Mid West, Argentina, Columbia, Guatemala, Antartica, Egypt, Jordan and even spent a year living in Bali. But it hasn’t all been easy. I had an allergic reaction to high altitude medicine during my Everest trek, which caused me to develop rheumatoid arthritis in my right knee, left ankle, and right big toe. I was basically bedridden for 3 months in Tokyo, but luckily, my brother was with me to help. I also had a motorcycle accident in Bali where a cat ran in front of me, causing me to hit the brakes too hard and slide, scratching up my knees and hands. And, I even contracted Dengue fever in Bali and had to spend 4 nights in the hospital hooked up to an IV until I recovered. Despite all of this, I wouldn’t trade my adventures for anything. Traveling is hard, it can be lonely, uncomfortable, and scary, but it’s worth it. It changes you for the better and the memories you make will last a lifetime. My advice to you is to seek adventure, take chances, and trust in yourself. Who knows, you might just end up with some scars, a broken heart, and a whole lot of amazing experiences.
