About Heidi Probst

I qualified as a Therapeutic Radiographer in 1987 from the Royal London Hospital (Whitechapel) and spent fourteen years working in the NHS (Royal London and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust). I specialised in pre-treatment imaging (simulation). My PhD investigated radiotherapy protocols for breast cancer and was supported by a Department of Health doctoral training fellowship. I joined Sheffield Hallam University as a senior lecturer in 2001 where my teaching and research have focussed on research methods, breast cancer and NHS workforce research. My major research focus is on the delivery of radiotherapy for breast cancer, improving the technical delivery, reducing radiation dose to normal tissues, and improving patient experience and patient outcomes. My research portfolio currently includes four studies (three led by Hallam) The SuPPORT 4 All project, the CALIBRATE study and the Respire project. Recently Director of the Health Research Institute (Sheffield Hallam University)2020-2023 I have led large inter-professional research methods modules and developed post-graduate e-learning modules for research methods and Breast cancer radiotherapy. I supervise and examine MSc dissertations and doctoral students and was awarded an Inspirational Research Supervisor Award by Sheffield Hallam University (2014). EXTERNAL PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS AND AWARDS Named in the ‘Made at Uni’ campaign as one of the nation’s life savers (2019). The SuPPORT 4 All project was listed in the UK top one hundred breakthrough projects for UK Universities (2018).
