As a Desk Operations Supervisor for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, I have been given the opportunity to lead teams toward excellence in customer service, patient care, and scheduling. In my role, I am dedicated to leading with empathy and supporting team members in reaching their goals, while also upholding the mission and values of the organization. I believe that leadership provides a unique opportunity to not only make a positive impact on the organization, but also on the lives of others.Today, more than ever, employees are looking for jobs and leaders that allow them to feel valued, heard, and respected. These factors not only play a key role in employee satisfaction and retention, but they also help employees feel inspired to move forward in their careers and think innovatively. The impact that leaders have on others is significant and, in some cases, can be a deciding factor for employees considering their future career path. My goal as a leader is to harness my problem-solving strengths, ability to review and evaluate historical information and processes, adapt as needed, create and maintain meaningful relationships, and generate new innovative ideas to foster an environment where employees feel as though they are supported and are successful. In addition to leading teams with compassion and empathy, I am able to provide support and mentoring to future and current leaders by providing innovative ideas and feedback based on experience and education. While it can be intimidating and overwhelming as a new leader, having someone in your corner to help you think through challenges to determine new methods for positive outcomes can help to reduce the stress and burnout of new leaders.
