About Helen Steven

I enjoy work! Especially where I can use my skills to make a positive impact on communities and people’s lives. I am at my best in roles where I can lead collaboration to shape and deliver programmes or services that make a difference to our society. Others tell me I have a reputation for seeing the big picture, quickly getting my head around complex information, bringing people together and navigating a way to solutions. In my career, paid and unpaid, I’ve worked with people from all walks of life – employers, job seekers, executives, former refugees, new migrants – and in all sorts of organisations –business, government, community, not for profit. For the last few years, I’ve been learning te reo Māori me ōna tikanga – a journey that has filled me with appreciation for te Ao Māori, opened my eyes to our history and given me hope for the future. I’d like to help build that future. Outside work I am happiest in the outdoors, where the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, and the view is long.
