About Helena Long

ILLUSTRATION My illustrative work utilises a wide range of artistic mediums from linography, silk-screen printing, to collage, drawing and making short animations. Whether working on a project I've been given or personally sets myself, what I particularly enjoys most is the opportunity to problem solve. Depending on the subject matter, I fluctuate between working methods to produce imagery I feels best suits the themes I'm working on and the ideas and outcomes I have in mind. An avid skateboarder from early teenage years to present, I'm constantly motivated by my surroundings and experiences from skating through city streets and spaces, using my board as a tool to explore somewhere new. My personal practice often documents my travels from a skateboarder’s perspective to cities around Europe, New York and Montreal with collections of memorable objects, architectural shapes and buildings and patterns I finds within these places. SKATEBOARDING One of my main hobbies and something I'm incredibly passionate about is Skateboarding. I am one of the current girls UK national champions and sponsored by the skate companies Vans Shoes, Cheers Skateboards, Drug Store Skate Shop and JOYA Apples. With skateboarding I have given interviews and demos for television, advertising campaigns and magazines and have also taken part in tours, competitions and coaching. MUSIC I've been a session drummer for bands and other musicians playing at many functions i.e. birthday parties and weddings, however I currently play for a London based band Editselect We write and play all of our own music but have on request played cover sets too. We've played gigs and festivals all across the UK, toured around the Netherlands on a few occasions as well as having played a couple of shows in Hamburg and been featured on radio stations such as XFM.
