About Hellen Koka
My research interests center on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of vector-borne viral infections such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), Dengue virus (DENV), and Chikungunya virus (CHIKV). Mosquito-borne arboviruses such as Dengue and Chikungunya are of great public health importance due to their re-emergence in Kenya and also globally. My studies have also sharply focused on tick-borne viruses as well as tick-borne bacterial pathogens such as Rickettsia and Coxiella. My experience with different disease vectors (ticks, mosquitoes and sandflies) has given me the ability to work in many subfields that also encompass zoonotic disease surveillance and One Health.
