About Henk Roux

I possess knowledge and expertise in property development, and more especially the more-affordable housing market where I am able to take projects through the various phases, from inception to the handing over of an individual house to a beneficiary. My formal training as a Town and Regional Planner (honors degree: B et Sc - best final year student) provides the basis of my skill-set, and combined with a post- graduate Diploma in Advanced Project Management (distinction), as well as many years of hands-on project and construction management experience, ideally positions me to roll out residential developments on time and within budget. This knowledge and experience is not only witnessed by the more than 20 houses have I have delivered over the last 20 years, covering more than 30 projects, but is exhibited by the extensive Housing Manual and Controls forming part of the Urban Dynamics ISO 9001 quality certification as prepared solely by myself. Having previously worked for both local and provincial government, in the public and private sector, as a Town Planner locally and abroad and delivered housing projects locally and elsewhere in Africa for a variety of clients, has broadened my experience and expertise significantly. Included in my portfolio are such diverse projects as the construction of single houses, of community centers, the design and roll-out of local waste collection programs, the refurbishment of storm water canals, the establishment of a hydroponics farm and various others. Apart from the obvious tasks my current position entails, it also incorporates such tasks as constituting and working with teams of professionals, setting up labor desks, local procurement of materials and plant, formalizing various contractual opportunities for the local community (labor only contracts, task-based contracts, skills only contracts, turn-key contracts), sub-contractor training and mentoring, managing political interests, and preparing rational designs in terms of the requirements of SANS 1936. I work well in a team set-up and easily take leading roles. I am able to provide the opportunity for team members to express their ideas and to take part freely, as opposed to dictating their roles and contributions. I am results driven and find solutions to challenges through sheer determination when others consider giving up. My approach to all projects is methodical and I firmly believe it is all about the end-product. My goal is to deliver the best possible project outcome to the client within the confines of the project constraints.
