About Henny Dijkstra

As a teacher, I provide clarity, structure, and a safe learning environment, in which making mistakes is a valued and important part of the learning process. I use the communicative approach and I stimulate students to have a growth mindset. This builds their learning power. It also changes the way students see themselves and this may even have a positive effect on other areas of their lives. I work goal-oriented, in the short- and long-term curriculum and I actively involve students in this process. The way I interact with students is characterized by encouragement, giving them space, being approachable, and supporting students to take more and more responsibility to work towards their potential. Respect is key for a safe and effective learning environment. I show (genuine) interest in my students and I have an eye for individual needs in the group. Words that apply to me: creative, being able to think out of the box, learning and reflecting, decisive, a good listener and a good sense of humor.
