About Henri Colt

Henri Colt is a medical doctor, writer, philosopher, award-winning medical educator, and mountaineer. His books include an anthology of Flash Fiction: 30 Short Stories about Life & Death, and the recently published Becoming Modigliani, a myth-busting biography of Italian-Jewish artist Amedeo Modigliani. Other books include The Picture of Health: Medical Ethics and the Movies (Oxford University Press), Bronchoscopy and Central Airways Disorders: A Patient-Centered Approach (Elsevier Press), Flex-Rigid Pleuroscopy Step by Step (PMG Press), A Manual of Pleural Diseases (Raven Press), and the popular Essential Bronchoscopist Series (translated into seventeen languages). He currently writes short stories and a textbook on ethics for Interventional Pulmonologists. Henri has worked, lectured, or traveled around the world, visiting more than 130 countries and all continents. Much of his work focused on patients with potentially fatal diseases and the terminally ill. As an educator, his Train the Trainer seminars served as models for many University and post-graduate teaching programs and seminars for physician educators. He is also the founder of Bronchoscopy International, is a transnational group committed to training teachers of bronchoscopy and interventional pulmonology. Dr. Colt grew up in the United States and France and is comfortably bicultural. He holds a medical degree from the University of Nice, France, studied ethics in Argentina, and is Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of California. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, a philosopher and certified philosophical practitioner, and a former teacher of medical history and ethics. He was the Chairman of the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, and held honorary or elected leadership positions in many international medical societies such as the American College of Chest Physicians, the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, the ASER, and other national medical organizations. As an Eagle scout, Henri has a lifelong commitment to service leadership and humanitarian assistance. His other activities include mountaineering, rock climbing, and adventure travel.
