About Henrik Sillesen

My professional work as a leader within healthcare is centered around 2 areas: Leadership of people and leading research within vascular disease.I worked 38 years in leading Danish Hospitals, of which 23 years were as Head of Dept. of vascular surgical dept.s in Copenhagen, the last 15 years at Rigshospitalet, one of the largest vascular dept.s in Europe. AT the same time professor of vascular diseases at Univ. of Copenhagen.In 2021 I joined the Novo Nordisk Foundation to build a CVD research portfolio. Develop among other things an atherosclerosis project with the purpose of detecting early disease so intervention can start 20-30 years earlier than today.In 2023 I joined the Medical Analytics and Forecasting Company Airfinity Ltd, London, as Chief Medical Officer.Important positions apart from the above: President for the Danish Vascular Surgical Society 2001-2Secretary General for the Scandinavian Association for Vascular Surgery 2001-4 Secretary General for the European Vascular Surgical Society 2004-9President and Vice-President for the Danish Heart Foundation 2004 -8President for World Federation for Vascular Specialties 2010President Elect, European Society for Vascular Surgery 2016-8President, European Society for Vascular Surgery 2019Development & Research: I have for years been promoting that vascular disease (atherosclerosis) is one disease that affects all arteries (and organs they supply). Thus, I have been involved in many pharmaceutical trials and served on steering committees for several. I promote the idea that early detection of disease (screening), i.e. imaging, may be the best way to prevent ischemic events and/or rule out disease.
