Henry Curtis is a justice advocate, community organizer and facilitator, researcher, peer reviewer, moot court judge, and energy expert with a mathematical economic background and an interest in science, justice, and regulatory processes. Life of the Land Executive Director (1995-) and Vice President (1996-), represented LOTL in over 60 regulatory proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) dealing with all aspects of electric and gas regulation: Integrated Grid Planning, Performance-Based Regulation, Justice, Equity, Reliability, Resilience, Tree-Based Biofuel, LNG, Syngas, Coal, Wind, Solar, Energy Justice, Climate Impacts, Interconnections, NEM, FiT, etc. LOTL won three Hawaii Supreme Court appeals: the HECO 1971 rate case, and a tree-burning biomass and a gas company rate case (2019, 2020) that required PUC to consider Lifecycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions in all applications. Member, Hui Aloha ʻĀina o Ka Lei Maile Ali`i (KLMA) Board of Directors (2003-), formerly Ka Lei Maile Ali`i Hawaiian Civic Club, to honor the life and legacy of the Hawaiian Kingdom's last reigning monarch, Queen Liliʻuokalani. Ililani Media Journalist (2011-) covering science, technology, and politics in Hawai`i. Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) Community Co-Chair (2022-) His partner runs Community Alliance on Prisons (CAP), a community initiative working to develop effective interventions for Hawai’i’s offenders and to improve the quality of justice in Hawai’i.
