About Herb Seitz

With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, I am a risk management leader who drives value and excellence for my clients and stakeholders. My mission is to transform risk management programs to enable business growth, innovation, and resilience. My field of expertise includes operational resilience, model risk management, credit risk, and risk analytics. As the former Chief Risk Officer at Assurant, I designed and established the Global Risk Management function, covering 21 jurisdictions and 18k+ employees/contractors. I successfully implemented the risk appetite framework and educated executive management and the Board on risk governance and oversight. I also pioneered the non-financial risk program, including operational resilience and crisis management capabilities, with a key focus on cyber security. Additionally, I had oversight for the financial risk program, including the risk aspects of the capital management, investment management, and liquidity management strategies. Previously, I held various senior roles at Northern Trust, where I managed the global operational risk and risk analytics functions, and led the global crisis management and operational resiliency program. I also designed, implemented, and administered the model risk management program, the loan review function, and the global compliance testing function. I was extensively involved in the development and maturation of the firm’s CCAR program, and established the firm’s offshore risk analytics and quantification hub in India and Philippines. I completed the Advanced Risk Management program at The Wharton School in 2019, and hold an MBA in Finance from DePaul University and a BS in Finance from Marquette University. I am a board member of the American Lung Association and the Arditti Center for Risk (DePaul University).
