As a Project Manager constructing large shafts “4 meters in diameter” first time ever made in New Zealand, making a huge profit margin, marked his step back to major projects after seven years gaining New Zealand experience working under Brian Perry Civil. Early in his career Herbert worked on geotechnical projects across the Philippines that included high-rise building construction, runway construction, and a role on the ambitious nationwide President’s Bridge Program. The Program aimed to construct a total of 200km of bridges to link the country’s islands; Herbert’s employer Gurayat Consulting Services supported by Department of the Interior and Local Government & Mabey and Johnson (UK Company) built thousands of short bridges over a period of ten years as part of the Program. Immediately prior to coming to New Zealand Herbert spent a year on construction of a power station in the middle of the Libyan desert, coping with 50-degree temperatures.
