APS-Upgrade Deputy Associate Project Manager Engineering Integration Argonne is a multidisciplinary science and engineering research center. The laboratory works in concert with universities, industry, and other national laboratories on questions and experiments too large for any one institution to do by itself. At Argonne, we explore the world together in order to build a better one. The Advanced Photon Source (APS) at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory provides ultra-bright, high-energy storage ring-generated x-ray beams for research in almost all scientific disciplines. The APS electron accelerator and storage system are the first critical steps in producing the high-energy x-rays that are used for frontier research. APS-Upgrade The brightness and energy of x-ray beams are critical properties for research. The APS Upgrade project will increase the brightness of the APS high-energy (hard) x-ray beams. This will equip researchers for the groundbreaking discoveries and transformational innovations that create new products and industries and generate jobs. The completed project will increase the number of users and experiments that can be accommodated by the APS, and the brightness of the x-ray beams at the APS. The APS-Upgrade accelerator mechanical systems include developing the magnet, ultra-high vacuum, and mechanical support systems that will replace the existing APS electron accelerator.
