About Hernan del Valle

International lawyer with 20 years of experience leading large scale development and emergency aid operations in armed conflicts and natural disasters in five continents. Expertise in context analysis in complex political settings, diplomacy, public affairs and corporate communications. Experience building partnerships with culturally diverse stakeholders and communities, and engaging and influencing a wide range of state and non-state actors. I have worked for nonprofits, foundations, and civil society organizations as a senior executive, advocate, and advisor. I have a solid track record managing operations with annual budgets of several millions. Flexible and able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, I thrive in large, fast paced, matrix organizations managing cross-functional teams. I have been Director of operations in several countries with proven success developing strategy and policy to maximize impact on the ground. As Director of Advocacy and Communications for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)/ Doctors Without Borders I have built and led a solid, diverse and inclusive team deployed across the globe. Together, we have been responsible for planning and executing multi-country advocacy campaigns and strategic communications across the entire operational portfolio (28 countries). My role focused on building diplomatic relations and managing public affairs and communications in high profile operations and complex political contexts. In my current role as Executive Director at the European Climate Foundation I oversee decarbonization strategies in the areas of Transport & Mobility and Industry. I am also Regional Director for the Mediterranean. We work together with a wide network of governmental and non-governmental organizations to secure a just transition towards a greener and sustainable European economy and society. An alumnus of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Rita E. Hauser Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies at Harvard University, and Research Associate at the Center for Conflict Studies (ACCS) at the University of Amsterdam.
