About Hernan Gonzalez

Hernán González, MD, PhD. currently holds a position as Associate Professor of surgery in the department of Surgical Oncology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He performed his clinical fellowship in head and neck surgery at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has an active clinical practice in the surgical treatment of patients with thyroid cancer, with extensive experience in the management of locally advanced and recurrent thyroid cancer. For the last 5 years he has lead a research team in a Biomedical Research Consortium (BMRC), focused on translational research in cancer biomarkers. His group has created new bioinformatic methods allowing to develop highly accurate, yet small size gene signature tests which can be adaptes to widely available diagnostic platforms. The first test in clinical validation, ThyroidPrint®, is a gene expression test which accurately (NPV 98%) rules out the presence of thyroid cancer in indeterminate thyroid nodules. This signature uses 10 genes, works on a FDA approved qPCR platform and will be available as a kit for site of care diagnosis. A promising pipeline of new diagnostic and prognostic signatures is underway, including thyroid, lung and gastric cancer to increase the portfolio of tests for personalized medicine. He has recently founded new biotech startup, GeneproDX, a molecular diagnostics company located in Silicon Valley and Santiago - Chile, that will commercialize new assays for personalized medicine used for the diagnosis and prognosis of solid tumors.
