About Hesham Eldesouky

Dr Eldesouky has 15 years of consulting and research experience. His technical consulting experience covers many areas including; site investigation planning, settlement calculations, slope stability, bearing capacity and settlement of deep and shallow foundations, ground improvement, dynamic analysis, and support deep excavation.His research is focused on liners and covers in landfill and mining. He has good experience with finite element and numerical analysis programs and had implemented them in many consulting and research projects. He utilized many finite software packages as PLAXIS, ABAQUS, LSDYNA and GeoStudio in geotechnical analysis. The FEA covered areas including; simple static-load deformation, large deformation, dynamic analysis, and time dependent analysis as creep and consolidation analysis. On the consulting side, Dr Eldesouky designed support deep excavation systems with depths down to 28m in North America and the Middle East. The deep excavation support systems included anchored shotcrete, soldier pile walls, diaphragm walls, and secant pile walls. He analyzed the slope (static, dynamic, seismic induced displacement) of up to 40 m high soil and rock slopes near residential and industrial developments, 150 m high tailings storage facilities (tailing dams) and landfills, and 100 m high waste rock dumps. He worked on geomembrane liners of landfills and ponds. He also worked on site investigation planning and foundation capacity and settlement analysis for residential, commercial, and industrial developments both in North America and the Middle East including deep and shallow foundations. Beside his design and office consulting experience, Dr. Eldesouky supervised, and worked on quality assurance of, pile load testing, anchor testing, tailings dams raise, liners installation, construction of concrete structures.He utilized numerical analysis to analyzed and design many of these projects. He used either commercial available software package or self-developed computer scripts. On the research side, he developed methods to calculate strain and stresses in geomembrane in mining, ponds, and landfill applications through differential equations and extensive finite element analysis. He developed a software to help practical engineers to implement some of these methods in real field problems. He worked with other engineers and researchers and developed charts to calculate strains in air bubbles develop in geomembrane liners of ponds. One of his papers was selected among the best papers published in Geotextile and Geomembrane Journal in 2018.
