Background
About Hillary Tomas
I currently teach middle school Social Studies and English Language Development (ELD). I am very comfortable collaborating with colleagues, taking on leadership roles, and I have successfully helped develop a committee within my district dedicated to diversifying the historical narrative in Social Studies classrooms. I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching Leadership from St. Mary’s College. Additionally, I am a graduate from the University of California Berkeley with a B.A. in Native American Studies. I was an active member of the Native American Retention and Recruitment Center on campus as well as the Native American Student Development and Multicultural Community Center. Working with these student organizations and centers helped me connect with other students and communities not only in Berkeley, but in the greater Bay Area. Much of the work I did on campus was a collaborative effort with other student organizations putting together social-justice events and workshops to better serve different communities around the Bay Area and campus.
