A Recontextualizing Model of Knowledge Crossing Borders": A New Educational Paradigm Connecting the Classroom and the World Contemporary education has reached a major turning point, from the transmission of knowledge separated by subject to the construction of "integrated knowledge" capable of responding to complex issues in the real world. I have been involved in teacher development and educational research at Nagasaki University's Faculty of Education for more than 20 years, advocating an innovative educational vision that responds to these contemporary challenges: The Re-Contextualization Model of Knowledge Crossing Borders. At the core of this model, the tagline is "Bring learning back to a living context." The aim is to reconnect knowledge that has been encoded in the classroom and lost its reality to the "living context" of local communities, historical memory, and the global environment. I combine my diverse expertise in the sociology of education, curriculum theory, and tourism to transform learning in the following three dimensions. Recontextualizing the Curriculum: Applying the CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) theory in the United States, we embed knowledge in social and professional contexts to motivate learners and elevate it into usable knowledge that works in the real world. Identity Inquiry: Based on history education and the study of nationalism, this program supports students in the process of establishing their identity in dialogue with others and in historical context. Bridging the region and the world: Creating a loop of thinking that leads from the local field of Nagasaki to solutions for global issues by utilizing tourism education, public history, and planetary health as practical places.
