About Hlib Burtsev

As a passionate individual interested in the animal world, I have developed a diverse professional background that combines my love for biology, consulting, and supporting others. My journey began as a Terrarium Department Administrator at a pet store, where I enjoyed advising clients on caring for exotic pets and assisting with store operations.I currently serve as a Curatorial Assistant at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. In this role, I contribute to the Entomology department by conducting digital imaging of specimens and maintaining the database. Through meticulous attention to detail, I ensure the preservation and accessibility of valuable scientific resources.Alongside my work at Harvard, I actively support the Brown University community in the Key Office. Here, I provide comprehensive assistance and resolve residential life-related issues for students and their families. By leveraging my problem-solving skills and expertise in customer service and database management, I contribute to a positive and enriching university experience.I am also proud to serve as a non-paid part-time college counselor for Ukraine Global Scholars (UGS). My main focus is guiding students through college applications, offering advice on choices, and assisting with financial documentation. I find great inspiration in my students' aspirations and in UGS's mission to empower them to acquire education abroad and bring their knowledge and experiences back to rebuild Ukraine.Throughout my academic journey, I have been honored with two 1st-place awards at the National Stage of the Ukrainian Biology Olympiad, showcasing my expertise in the biological sciences. Furthermore, my involvement in the Junior Academy of Science led me to defend three successful scientific projects and, later, co-authoring a research project on wing asymmetry in Odonata conducted at Kyiv National University.Looking to the future, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Entomology, focusing on Hymenoptera. I am excited about the opportunity to undertake innovative research projects that contribute to our understanding of these fascinating creatures and their ecological significance. Additionally, I am driven to play a role in developing environmental conservation policies aiming to protect and restore biodiversity. Moreover, my interdisciplinary background in Applied Math-Biology and Astrophysics fuels my dream of conducting research that bridges these fields and perhaps even venturing into space!
