Background
About Holly Formolo
2021-current: Georgetown University/US DOS English Language Specialist 2018- current: English language lecturer at American University of Iraq, Sulaimani 2017: Seasonal Worker with the DOI (Dept. of Interior) as a Park Archaeologist for Yosemite National Park 2015-2017: English Lecturer in the ELC (English Language Center at Koç University, Istanbul 2013-2015: I was a Georgetown University/US DOS English Language Fellow at the University of Bahrain in the Teacher's College. September 2012: English Instructor at Zirve University, Gaziantep, Turkey June, 2011: English instructor at Amideast, Tunis, Tunisia In January 2010 I received my Masters in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) at The New School University in NYC. For many years I had been working full time as a professional archaeologist/anthropologist on Maui. My initial research in graduate school focused on using ethnographies and their transcriptions as a way for international students to notice their grammar, as well as develop a critical awareness to the inner workings of their specialized discourse community- which in my paradigm is centered for social science majors in university level classrooms. In today's global economy the need for using the English language as a Lingua Franca is on the rise. I feel my background in anthropology and cultural studies puts me at an advantage in the today's changing world. Additionally, my love of foreign travel, as well as a desire to bridge cross-cultural "isms" has led me on this path. I am excited to see what the future holds for me. Specialties: Teaching English as a foreign language, osteology, museum studies, Historic Preservation mediation, drafting, writing technical (archeological) reports that conform to SHPD (State Historic Preservation Division) criteria, fairly adept at facilitation efforts between us (archaeologists), SHPD officers, developers and indigenous peoples during controversial projects, historical background research, etc.
