About Holly Hughes

Determined, hard-working and passionate; three words that I'd use to describe myself and how I approach life. Already, in my 23 years of life, I feel I have more experience than most people my age. Not the unpaid internships in big London companies or volunteering in my local charity shop, but real life experience working in people-facing roles. Growing up I wasn't in the position to take on unpaid jobs, I needed to earn money to support my needs, and so I have worked in a number of hospitality roles before entering the fitness space in 2018. My experience as a fitness coach gave me some of the best life skills: communication, dealing with difficult conversations (and customers), providing mental health support, and people management. I believe my drive is best epitomised from my experience in 2020. Both my partner and I were made redundant one month before starting the final year of my Bachelor's degree, having worked for the same company for some time, so we collaborated to create a community-driven fitness business. Across 18 months we achieved so much: running online, outdoor and in-gym fitness classes, I developed my own nutrition course that was delivered online, and provided 1:1 personal training sessions. Juggling this with the final year of my degree AND all in the midst of the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic was a huge task. Nevertheless, thanks to my determination to succeed and an ability to be incredibly organised, JS Performance made a profit in its first year and I achieved first class honours in my degree. After 18 months of business I decided to follow a new career path in marketing. One of my main roles with JS Performance was the marketing, both online and offline, which I discovered I really loved. In September 2022 I joined Renishaw Plc as a Commercial Graduate and have already gained a vast amount of expertise, working on my skills around SEO and social media marketing (specifically LinkedIn). I continue to be passionate about exercise and fitness, and how that impacts our mental health. Furthermore, my new job has enabled me to return to play football with Forest Green Rovers. Football is my greatest, and oldest, passion in life so it's great to be back in the game.
