Innovation is like learning to draw a map of somewhere you have never been. but you can't be afraid to stop and ask for directions. I am a naturally curious person which I believe is the underpinning of my love of innovation and product development. Here is how to that translates for me professionally: An insatiable need to get to know people. I am the type of person that you don’t want to sit next to on a plane. I love hearing people’s stories and learning about how their life is different from mine. This fascination with people and their stories took me all the way to North Korea to witness for myself how isolation can impact a population of people. When I was working with SC Johnson I traveled Asia, Europe and the US to help people clean their homes and learn about cultural differences between cleaning styles and products. All of this is to say that to me, being a product developer ends in an execution, but the real talent and joy is finding the consumer pain that I can elevate with a product that drives enterprise value. Strong collaborator. I am extremely extroverted and paid my way through college with jobs like radio dj, red bull campus hype girl and water-softener telemarketer. I am comfortable enough in my own skin to be vulnerable with others. Great innovation leadership requires the vulnerability to be curious enough to inquire about the world around you, without the need to be right or fear of being wrong. Life Long Learner: I can jump into a new industry and within a short period of time develop empathy for users and an understanding of the industry. I am constantly finding new ways to learn as I build up my professional career as well. In 2024 I took a graduate-level course on product management and gained certification from the world’s leading “Trend Hunter” company. When I was home in 2020 with a new baby, I became curious about how to leverage the publishing industry to make use of my new found time at home and wrote a 5 time awarded children’s book.
