About Howard Sharfstein
I am a recovering environmental attorney and long-time corporate sustainability professional. I retired after four-plus decades of working on air, water, waste management, land protection, and energy policy issues in the public, private, and academic sectors. I am fortunate enough to now pursue my professional interests as a volunteer. I am a co-founder and the President of the non-profit Kulshan Carbon Trust (KCT), which convenes, facilitates and catalyzes regenerative nature-based climate solutions in NW Washington where I am living my best life. KCT’s mission is to catalyze regenerative place-based climate action by empowering land stewards and communities with practical nature-based climate solutions like biochar to sequester carbon, restore ecosystems, and strengthen community resilience in the Kulshan bioregion. I also serve as the Secretary to the Whatcom (noisy waters) County Climate Impact Advisory Committee (CIAC) which recommends climate mitigation and resilience strategies to our County Council. CIAC also develops and reports progress on the county’s Climate Action Plan.
