About Hubertus Ruel

With about 25 years of experience in research, teaching, and consulting in the fields of international business, diplomacy, ethics, and religion, I am a scholar and practitioner who combines academic rigor with practical relevance. As the Project Leader Academic Development at University College Twente, I design and deliver innovative and interdisciplinary courses on business diplomacy, corporate governance, and ethics for the programme around the world. For the UCT ATLAS programme, a highly selective bachelor degree that aims to educate the next generation of global leaders, I am responsible for the Academic Approach and Attitude Learning Line throughout its curriculum. I worked for prestigious universities and programmes around the world as well as serving universities in the Netherlands (University of Twente, Utrecht University, Hotelschool The Hague, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences) in scholarly as well as in strategic advisory positions. Most recently I also served as an Academic Advisor Leadership Academy at Mathias Corvinus Collegium, a prestigious institution that provides elite education and mentoring for talented students in Hungary and beyond. In this role, I provided guidance and feedback on the curriculum, research projects, and publications of the Leadership Academy, as well as shared my insights and expertise on various topics related to international business and morality. Currently I work for the University College Twente (UCT), the Liberal Arts, Sciences and Technology programme of the University of Twente, as well as being affiliated with Tilburg University (Tilburg School of Catholic Theology). Additionally, I am the Managing Director, Scholar, and Research-based insights provider at CONE Academy, my own platform that connects academic knowledge with business practice and offers consulting, training, and coaching services on international business and diplomacy, business and board room values and morality, sustainable and responsible international business, and business and religion. I serve at a number of governing and advisory boards of which one is the Advisory Board of Modul University, Austria's largest private university, Another one is the board of Katholiek Nieuwsblad, a weekly newspaper that will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2023!
