About Hugh Murphy

After more than 30 years in the IT, Telecommunications and Electronics industries, I have changed focus, moving to a role that provides pastoral care in residential aged care, with a particular interest in care for people living with dementia and their loved ones. My previous roles were quite diverse, and always focussed on people - clients, customers and colleagues. I gained broad-ranging experience working across cultures and in the delivery and operational management of IT services and products. My experience includes building trusted client relationships; establishing and developing multi-disciplinary teams; product development; project management; and developing and assessing, and improving business workflows. I found mentoring one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career, helping engineers, managers and other staff develop their careers and understand their professional identities. I have worked for charities in voluntary roles for many years. I am a director of the Australian Online Giving Foundation (AOGF). I am a Local Board member at StreetWork a charity that has been working for more than 40 years to bring mentoring and other services to "at risk" young people, helping them turn their lives around. I frequently speak at public events and MC at fundraising events promoting StreetWork's exceptional work with troubled young people who all have tremendous, often unrecognised potential.
