About Hugo Benedetti

I am an Assistant Professor at ESE Business School – Universidad de los Andes, where I explore how emerging technologies are reshaping the future of markets, strategy, and corporate governance. My research focuses on how technologies such as blockchain, cryptoassets, and fintech are transforming financial markets, investor behavior, and corporate accountability. I examine topics ranging from token pricing dynamics and cross-listings to digital fraud, ESG distortions, and sovereign wealth fund innovation. Through this work, I aim to provide practical insights for business leaders and policymakers navigating the intersection of finance, technology, and long-term strategic risk. I’m increasingly interested in helping executives and boards evaluate, adapt to, and govern innovation in complex, fast-moving environments. My academic work has been published in the Journal of Corporate Finance, International Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Financial Crime, and Economic Modelling, and has been featured in The Economist, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, Nasdaq, and multiple crypto-industry outlets. I am co-editor of The Emerald Handbook on Cryptoassets, and have co-authored chapters in The Palgrave Handbook of Social Finance, The Emerald Handbook of Fintech: Reshaping Finance, The Palgrave Handbook of Sovereign Wealth Funds, The Emerald Handbook of Blockchain for Business, The Palgrave Handbook of Technological Finance, and Essential Concepts of Sustainable Finance: An A–Z Guide. I also advise emerging technology projects and contribute to executive education on the future of finance, emerging tech, and strategic foresight.
