About Hunt Walne

I believe in the value of effective communication and aim to position my academic and career ambitions at the nexus of agricultural industry, producers, consumers, and policymakers. Why a passion for agriculture? Agriculture is the world’s original industry and remains the most critical industry to civilization. It is the ritual that allowed early humans to escape the hunter-gatherer cycle by freeing up human capital to pursue other prosperous endeavors. Just as agriculture benefitted early humans, current advances in agriculture provide the opportunity for an upward spiral to prosperity for all stakeholders. Agriculture is one of America’s greatest success stories and an industry with success that both sides of the political aisle should embrace. Despite endless challenges presented to society, I keep a positive outlook on life and the future. Agriculture is advancing and innovating at an unprecedented pace. We are truly just on the verge of the greatest time in history to be involved. Technological innovation, its embracement, and the responsible use of our resources will be crucial for all players in this industry. My research experience has been focused on exploring the effects of environmental factors (such as temperature, soil moisture, plant nutrition, and others) on the productivity of various agronomic, industrial, and food crops. My leadership experience initially stemmed from serving multiple roles in student government as an undergraduate and was further refined spending two summers in our nation’s capital. I have continued to apply these experiences throughout graduate school, working on a culturally diverse research team, founding a student organization, and volunteering time to national organizations such as the American Society of Agronomy, among others. In my personal time, I enjoy spending time outdoors, training my Labrador retriever, and cheering on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
