About Hunter MacKenthun

I'm an Aerospace Engineer new-grad with a lifelong interest in rockets, aircraft, and space. Growing up, I loved to tinker with small-scale Estes model rockets. During my time at ISU, my experience with Cyclone Rocketry allowed me to take my passion a step further with the ability to work on high-powered rockets as well as lead the recovery team during my junior year. Together, my team designed, manufactured, and tested our competition rocket's recovery system in preparation for the Spaceport America Cup. I've also had the opportunity to work at three large engineering companies: Boeing, Delta TechOps, and Altec Industries. During my time as an intern at Boeing, I was fortunate to be a part of the Artemis moon rocket (SLS) core stage propulsion system team. In this role, I undertook the responsibility of leading a significant nonconformance study for propulsion component suppliers, aimed at identifying patterns and recurring themes. This experience provided me with valuable insights into the components involved in a liquid rocket propulsion system, as well as the intricate processes involved in their development, qualification, and acceptance. At Delta TechOps, I worked on the PMA approval team where I approved aircraft and engine parts for replacement on Delta Air Lines' aircraft fleet. I really enjoyed the technical aspect of this job and learned a lot about the various parts and systems of aircraft and engines. At Altec, I worked as a final assembly manufacturing engineer and learned the importance of good communication and coordination as I had to work very closely with the shop floor to implement and sustain new processes. I also was assigned multiple long-term projects which I needed to balance with everyday engineering tasks.
