About Iain Smith

I am a strength and conditioning coach and entrepreneur with a real passion for helping people with their fitness goals. I have been involved in the training and fitness industry for over 20 years now and have run my own fitness training facility for 8 years. My first business was in Clydebank in Scotland, and then in 2013 when my wife and I emigrated from Scotland to Canada I opened a new facility in Nova Scotia where we live. I have a BA(Hons) and MPhil in Sports Studies and have been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through NSCA since 2003, and I have always looked to expand my knowledge through self-study. My core training philosophy revolves around functional training; full body exercise working multiple muscle groups at once. My facility works on the warehouse gym model with training equipment such as drag sleds, giant tires, sandbags and free weights, training people of any ability. I hate fitness gimmicks and fads and strive to get my clients back to basics; functional movements and a whole food diet. Currently I'm looking to grow the business and expand into online training/nutrition. I would be very interested to hear from anyone with an interest in marketing. I come from a competitive sporting background; from the age of 12 to 23 I was part of the Perth Harriers athletic club. I competed as a decathlete, including competing for Scotland at senior club level. At 24 I moved from athletics to play American football, first for the Stirling Broncos senior team and then for the University of Stirling Clansmen. I played various positions including linebacker, defensive and offensive lineman and quarterback. I also coached the team. When I'm not training people at the gym you will likely find me outside welding, studying at YouTube University (I'm interested in the skills of making things as well as history) or playing with our cat -) Contact me at iain@highlanderstrengthandfitness.ca
