About Ian Baker

With over 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, I am a former flight control manager who supervised the daily operations of Horizon Air, a regional airline with a fleet of over 50 aircraft and 45 destinations. I was responsible for coordinating and communicating with various departments, such as crew scheduling, maintenance, dispatch, and weight and balance, to ensure safety and on-time performance. I also made and executed decisions in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, using my strong interpersonal and project management skills. In 2021, I decided to pursue my passion for heritage conservation and site management, and enrolled in a dual master's degree program offered by Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg and Helwan University Cairo. I am currently studying the theoretical and practical aspects of preserving and managing cultural heritage sites, such as monuments, landscapes, and museums. I have also obtained Google certifications in Linux, SQL, networks, and security, to enhance my technical skills and prepare for the digital transformation of the heritage sector. My goal is to leverage my unique combination of aviation and heritage expertise to contribute to the protection and promotion of cultural diversity and heritage around the world.
