Background
About Ian Briscoe
I'm a strategic leader and community-builder who thrives at the intersection of complexity and collaboration. Whether leading regional emergency programs, supporting wildfire recovery, or building out grassroots volunteer teams, I bring a people-first approach backed by big-picture thinking. Currently, I serve as an Emergency Program Coordinator for the Regional District of Central Kootenay, where I lead our Emergency Support Services (ESS) program and community recovery efforts. In 2024, I stood up and led three wildfire recovery working groups focused on Communications, Social/Cultural, and Economic Recovery, ensuring diverse voices were heard and aligned action was taken. My leadership style is grounded in curiosity, connection, and systems thinking. I see opportunities where others see roadblocks and love building teams that reflect the strengths and talents of the people within them. While I haven't pursued a traditional academic path, that’s been a conscious and strategic choice. I’m a self-directed learner who moves faster than most classrooms allow. I prefer to engage directly with material, absorb it quickly, and apply it in high-stakes, real-world settings; from emergency operations to community development. I’ve earned certifications, built systems, and led teams not because of degrees, but because of dedication, adaptability, and results. For me, learning is constant, and always in service of making an impact. Outside of my day job, I’m deeply involved in volunteer work, including search and rescue, volunteer ski patrol, and community sports development. Let’s connect if you’re passionate about community, emergency management, or turning good ideas into great solutions!
