About Ian Cameron

I work at the exciting interface between academia, entrepreneurship, industry and society. I am driven towards the spin-out of applications from university research (specifically in the area of neuroscience) and in the education and mentorship of science students exploring career opportunities in industrial R&D, consultancy, start-ups, NGOs, and other players in health(care) innovation. I have been instrumental in bridging between academia and industry. I am skilled as a liaison between researchers, managers, business developers, students, and the public. I take an active lead in the development and execution processes of public-private projects, including: scouting for opportunities, balancing between societal/customer interests and research-based technology and knowhow, building stakeholder relationships for co-creational aspects, particularly with a training and educational element such as internship projects and Challenge Based Learning (CBL). I also wrote my MBA management thesis on the alignment of culture, structure and strategy to achieve societal impact from academic research, and I strive to contribute to the organizational aspects to succeed across the three fundamental missions of good research, education, and societal impact. I have worked and taught in Canada, the USA (California) and the Netherlands. I excel in multidisciplinary and team-based environments involving people from diverse backgrounds.
